We have quite an open planned house with lounge, dining room and kitchen areas, so all the toys are in the dining area with the table and chairs moved to the side. Which is fine mostly as we just move the table out when we have guests.
Hubby has been moaning for a while about the mess in that area and saying that we should use one of the bedrooms as a play room.
I have always been reluctant to do this as I really enjoy having the kids around me (mostly..) and I am of the open-plan-farm-kitchen-persuasion where everyone is together.
Of late I have been thinking about this though as the mess is just beyond me.
What do my fellow bloggers think, separate playroom or not??
Separate playroom? In an ideal world maybe….
AngelBaby has her bedroom filled with toys where she plays, she has the nursery room filled with toys where she plays, the living room is a minefield scattered with her toys and so is the kitchen and laundry room.
Separate playrooms in my house is not working.
xx
Mine play in the tv room and braai room BUT the big BUT all toys, etc must be packed away before bath time. They play in their rooms but the big games are usually out of their rooms
We have a separate playroom at the moment (won’t in the new house though) and to be honest it’s just a toy store room. Everything gets dragged into the lounge to be played with and usually left there. It is handy though to be able to pack the toys out of sight when you need to.
I would loooove a playroom. Tash hauls out her room to the lounge! I think it’s great to have a place for them to store their toys. They will still bring them out but at least they have a home for them when you don’t want them in your living area.
Always wanted to do that, but it’s ended up being their bedroom. Although like MinkiMinki’s our whole house has turned into one big play area for the boys.
Every now and then I have the “anger” induced energy to move ALL their toys back into their room.
The third bedroom in our house has been the toyroom since we moved here 3 years ago. Even when baby comes, it will be in with us until we emigrate anyway (5 months old). But when we get to Ireland, the bedrooms are bigger than our bedrooms in SA. So hopefully there will be enough space in each childs room for their own toys. Also hoping for a conservatory (glass sunroom) for them to play in.
Would have loved, sorry love to have a separate playroom, if you can do it try it for a while. I always worry about the sudden quiet that arrives when something is being done that shouldn’t be, when they are in another room it is a bit more difficult to monitor! Difficult choice, but worth a try.
We have a playroom and its a total win! All the mess/toys/stuff goes in the playroom while the rest of the house remains reasonably ‘tidy’.
Its a big win!
We are busy renovating (almost 2 years now – builder ran off with money blah blah blah) but we have a play room planned for all the toys. It’s at the far corner of the house, and probably will become a room to store all the toys that are all over the house at the moment. Hubby’s a neat-freak, so I pick up after the kids all day, and it’s very tiring. Not sure if the toys will stay in the playroom, but I’m longing for the day that the playroom is finished. At least I’ll be able to stash everything in there and close the door so hubby doesn’t see the mess 🙂
