If there’s one thing that really freaks me out is when my kids have a fever.
Take today as an example. When I picked Isabel up this morning she felt a little warm, but she was herself. About an hour later I mentioned to hubby in passing that she’s a little warm so he took her fever. 37.7. I got quite a fright, but knew I was working from home, so I could keep an eye out.
By 10h00 the nanny took her temperature and it was 38.8, so we gave her some Ponstil and that seemed to do the trick. Exactly 4 hours later, at 14h00, same story, 38.4. So we politely stuck an Empaped up her bum and then she was fine again until just after 18h00. Another 4 hours later, 38.4 again.
The we stuck her in the bath with tepid water and once again Empaped, so let’s see what happens tonight. Shame, I don’t know what’s wrong. No swollen gums, no rash. Something has been biting her, looks like flea bites, but that was days ago.
Any suggestions? When do you start running to the doctor?
I think watch her tonight and see tomorrow morning if there is still fever. I normally go to the Dr if I have been fighting with a fever for 24 hours and it is still occurring or if nothing that I do is helping to break the fever.
Sometimes it’s just a virus working it’s way out the body…
Thanks! I hope so!
yip agree, if she still has it tomorrow, best to check it out with the doc. I always check glands the neck too.
Hope she’s just fighting a little bug and is right as rain in the morn
I’m also a 24 hour fever mom! Unless I’ve tried everything and the fever just keeps going up, then we’re off to the Dr.
Hope she’s better this morning!
Ag shaim, good luck. Sounds like her body is fighting something!
I do 24hrs too, I am probably too late with this comment and you are already at the doc’s. 😀
Hope you are all feeling better soon. P.S. I really must get internet at home. xx
I wait 24 hrs, or if her temp goes up to 39.
Hope she’s OK.
Shame. Poor little thing. Hope the fever goes away soon!
i do the 24 hour as well and if it goes over 39 I test every 10 minutes, if it keeps going up, hospital/paed/gp. hate fevers as well!!
When my son was about 2, he also had a similar type of fever pattern, it would go up to 39/40 everytime the medication wore off. I took him to casualty twice that week, once they gave me empapeds and nurofen, and then after a few days when those were finished and his temp kept shooting back up to 40 again, I took him back to casualty, he had tonsilitis, and ended up in hospital for a week on IV antibiotics. If they had just taken me seriously the first time I took him instead of fobbing us off, he wouldnt have gotten as sick as he did. But I see in your latest post that you suspect tonsils and are taking her to the doctor, good idea!
